Need help on paint defect

This is on my wife's maxima that was bought new in april of this year. It just showed up in november during the first real cold spell that we had around here. Her car stays in a garage at home and a parking garage when at work so it does not see much time in the elements.

I dont have any real good pics, this was taken with camera phone, but it appears to be a palm/hand print. There are other spots that look like little fingerprints in close area to this larger spot. It can only be seen in direct sunlight. I have done some light wetsanding on it and the area is smooth. I am not sure where to go from here. Nissan supposedly will waranty a factory paint defect, but they may not and they would have to keep the car for so long that i would like to see if there is anything that could be done before i leave it with them.

Try washing the area and then use a clay bar.

Should have mentioned that, clay bar was the first thing that i tried. Washed it and clay bar did nothing. Wet sand with 2000 grit, i didnt cut it very much, hit it with some compound and did nothing for it

I would say it is in the paint as you seem to have tried many different things. I would take it in and see what they say.

I just cant decide if i want to try and sand it down a little more or go ahead and take it in to them. It's just a hassel to take it and i was just hoping maybe someone had seen something similar. I know its hard to tell just by looking at pics though.

These kind of things make my wife go nuts too and makes her want to do things like sell it for a huge loss and buy something else lol. So if it were something that i could fix then she wouldnt even think about it. Just hoping for a miracle I guess, but maybe i'll just have to take it in

I would be careful doing to many fixes yourself or they could blame it on that.

Yeah, that is my thoughts too. I'd probably burn through and then it is all on me. That's usually how all my projects go

Doesn't Nissan have that stupid healing paint?

I am not for sure, but i have found that a lot of 370z owners are not happy with the paint on their cars. I would guess that nissan uses the same type of paint for their other vehicles as well, its just that the z owners are more particular about the details.

So i sanded it down a little more with no results and then decided to go ahead and run it by the dealership. It was dark and the lights in their bay were not the brightest so it was hard to see. The service manager could see some of it with the use of a flashlight though.

He told me to bring it back on a sunny day so he could get some pics to send to his nissan rep. He basically told me that if it was a $500 or under fix, he could go ahead and authorize it but that anything more would have to be approved by his rep. Nice guy to work with, I just hope the rep is as nice
