Need some input on mounting an antenna (not CB)

I currently have a 5ft (roughly) antenna on my Expedition for my scanner. It's length is tuned for the specific frequency I need to monitor. I'll actually be running two of these on my Tahoe when I get one. The second is for a 50w repeater to transmit on the same frequency. On top of the roof is too high to mount 62" of antenna. And I'm concerned that bumper mounting will get in the way of the barn doors (most of the ones I am finding have barn doors).

Does anyone have a CB or HAM antenna mounted anywhere but on the roof or bumper? I know the fender is an option, but what else is there. I'm not sure that the same concept I used on the Ford would work, due to the light design. See below what I did.

What about a bracket like that made to fit on the side of the bumper, between the body and bumper. Just a thought.

josh: check with www.aesham.com. or any ham radio store. i using two comet rs-730 mounts on the rear of my tahoe with liftgate. lossen the allen screw and slide it on to the side of your barn doors. just an ideal

I haven't even bought a Tahoe yet, but I know it's what I want, so I am trying to plan ahead for the mods I know I'll need to do. My wife has a 93 Syburban with barn doors. How similar is the rear barn door area from the 93 Sub to a 99 Hoe? I guess I could look on hers and try to come up with some ideas.
