my dash indicators are flickering. The speedometer and tachometer will sometimes surge back and forth, while my warning lights like the air bag warning or the parking brake warning will flicker on and off while I'm driving. My cruise control will work for a short while and then disengage unexpectedly. Could this be something as simple as a fuse? Has anyone else had this problem?

I doubt it is a fuse but it sounds like a short somewhere in that circuit probably under dash look to see if steering column has rubbed wires check all connections and grounds as well. Question does the truck stumble when doing this or does it run smooth if the truck cuts as well check starter connections

Yes, the engine seems to stumble a little, but doesn't die. This problem seems to begin after I've driven for a little while. If it was a short, wouldn't the problem begin immediately. Maybe after some heat builds up is when the short manifests itself. I remember that this problem began when I started using the cruise control during a long trip.

I doubt its a fuse, usually the fuse will pop and wouldn't work at all. BUT, I had this issue with my dual electric fans and my a/c not working last month. My fans would work whenever they wanted and the a/c as well. So I started checking everything, like the pressure valve, replaced the electric fan relay, and everything you can think of. We started checking to see if they had power starting at the fans and working our way back. We finally found one of the fuses had power on one side but not the other. When we pulled the fuse, it appeared the metal part inside that pops when its overloaded, was stretched and thin???? Weird. Doesnt hurt to check the fuses...

Since the problem seems to span several different circuits, I would put the effort into main connections, both positive and negative.

Keep in mine that in ALL dc applications, the current is equal on both sides of the circuit, negative as well as positive.

It’s also important to start keeping track of voltage, while driving. It should be holding at 14 to 14.5 all the time. Also note voltage before starting.

I would remove, clean and replace all ground lines on the engine and body. Also check the main positive lines and their connections to the power distribution boxes, like the relay panel and fuse panel. Also watch for wires that look like they have been hot. Good luck…..

Does it have headers on it, if so look for burnt insulation on anything close to them. Was any work done to it around the time it started?
