New Brush Guard

Just put on a new brush guard, overall pretty happy with the results.

But seriously, I drive a lot at night down dark country roads with a lot of deer. If I hit a deer with this, it will ruin my day, but hopefully I can still drive away.

My experience with these is that they will in fact guard brush, but they will also crumple and do more damage in a collision than without. If I were an elk hunting hide then maybe.

Yes they make a huge mess in a collision - I used to work at a collision shop and they make a mess of the frames where they bolt on not to mention the grill - radiator support, fenders, bumper... You would think they would add some collision protection but i think they are worse with them.

I've seen them break loose in a collision, strike and kill an uninvolved motorist traveling the opposite direction. freak accident I know, but I just don't think they do anything good.

I can say from experience they do not help. In my case it probably didn't make the damage any worse except that it adds another $600 part you have to replace if you mess it up.

They are hollow fairly light gauge steel. My Westin I can actually pull the headlight covers and they bend by hand. The bull bars on police vehicles are much different, these are just what they say - brush guards. If you get a wild hair and take your new Yukon or Tahoe through a briar patch they will knock them down for you about 0.1 seconds before your truck gets into them. That's about it.

But I love the look of them anyways ;-) Nice job.

I should of listened to your sound advice. The truck in front of me threw out a red Solo cup. I tried to dodge it, but I was too late.

The cup crushed my brush guard like tin foil. Causing me to veer off into a daycare. It was madness.

But that wasn't the worst of it. The brush guard flew through the air and hit a bus of nuns. Decapitating all of them. The horror!

Please let this be a lesson to others.
