2004 Tahoe 4WD 5.3L Flex. 120,000 miles

Truck is making an intermittent rumbling type vibration. Feels like I am driving on broken asphalt. The truck does have a hum at speeds over 25mph but the occasional rumbling feels like it is coming from the undercarriage under the gas pedal. I thought I needed new drivers side hub but that wouldn't explain the intermittent rumbling sound or would it? The rumbling is usually at any speed accelerating. I don't know if it does it in 4WD mode since it is hard to replicate. Any ideas? New CV axle? thanks for your help in advance.

I've got a similar issue dealer told me it was the hubs.. They were wrong I put 2 new hubs in and no change I'm thinking it's the axle as well...

So you have two new hubs and you still hear the humming? I guess I will replace the cv axle first since it is cheaper. I'll tell you how it goes. Might be tough to fit it in with the holiday stuff to do. I think it should take about an hour or two since it's my first time replacing the axle. Don't you love how dealer repair shops are essentially part hangers. Little to no actual diagnosing. Thanks for your input.

Ok well to update... No luck at the dealer they couldn't figure it out... And now it seems to be getting worse and it's defiantly rotating and a rpm changing noticeable issue now..

Now when your cruising to a stop the sound slows down as well as the vibration however in stead of a quick womp womp womp is more of a wooooooooomp woooooooooomp woooooooooomp accompanied by a vibration... The faster you go the more harsh the vib and sound as well as its a quicker pulse of a sound and vib...

But it still doesn't seem to match the speed of the truck.. It sounds almost like a slower revolution

Well, I got the CV axle and was going to install it this morning when I noticed that my wheel was moving ever so slightly. I felt a slight vibration while rotating the wheel. Bad hub. Back to the store to get a new hub, 170 bucks later and a bloody knuckle from removing the hub nut, the humming is gone. I will know if the rumbling sound is gone by next week since it is hard to duplicate and somewhat infrequent. I probably should have installed the the Axle as well since I was there and had the part but I wanted to see if the new hub fixes the rumbling issue as well. Bair1218, good luck isolating your sound.

Thanks man... Another day down and no luck.. If it is intact the carrier bearings at 69k I'm getting rid of this thing if thats what I can expect in the future... Can't believe it would have a major issue at such a low mileage
