New here. In the market for a NBS for our family car. We live on a dirt road in a rural area. We are looking for a Burb, Yukon or Tahoe in the 5k range. I have found a few fixer uppers. We are now trying to figure out what's better, low 200k in good condition or 150k that needs work. Kinda thought that the ones with lower milage but worse shape, were not taken care of and likely to have bigger problems down the line. What do you guys think?

Welcome from Miami Beach Luke!! I would get the one that has the best service records..I would also have a good independent mechanic check it out before you buy it..Just IMHO.

Well I read that post the other day. It helped me know some things to look for. So now I'm checking head codes for 706 codes. I was looking for ones give me negotiation opportunities. So problems i can fix. Mechanical problems or cosmetic issues. But now I'm wondering well why is in such bad shape? What could go bad next. I can fix most things. But can't afford motor or trans problems.

Luke :welcome:to the forum. There are some things you just cannot predict, especially an Automobile. If I could suggest one thing, VERIFY MILEAGE regardless what anyone tells you, unless it's the ORIGINAL OWNER with proof. Mileage can an is re-set today by thieves, even digital odometers.
There was a post in the last few days about someone just purchasing a 01 or 02 Suburban in the area your wanting to spend, if I remember it I'll let you know. Good luck.

Howdy Luke! It's best to examine each candidate on an individual basis. My preference would be for the mechanicals to be in better condition than the interior and body though heavy rust is a no no in my book. We know that o-ring in the pick up tube can go bad anytime after 150K miles. However the motors easily run to 200k and 300k and beyond.
