Never thought I'd be a noob again on another forum...
Guess I should start out with the standard questions for every automotive forum... How can I get 500hp, 30mpg for under $200? Can I fit 35's?
Recent Texas transplant from SW Kentucky. Schooled mechanic, but worked in the oil/gas business for the past year until I moved to Texas and got a job as a plant manager just north of Houston.
I've driven a '98 GMC Sonoma ZR2 for 8 years now and also been an active member at ZR2USA.com since I bought it also. Been to several meet & greets around the country and made some great friends... Looking forward to making some new ones here!
The Z has just under 200,000 miles of hell on it. Cosmetically it's in excellent shape... Mechanically, it's feeling it's age.
So, I started shopping for new(ish) trucks and really hated to get under another payment right now since I just moved to Texas from Kentucky for work... So I found this:
99 Yukon 4x4. Autotrac, 66,000 miles, one owner, garage kept, Magnaflow cat-back. Got a ding or two here and there and the carpet has a spot or two... Other than that, it's spotless. Had a nasty miss to it so I picked it up for $3,000. Came home and switched #1 & #7 plug wires back to the CORRECT order and it runs like new.
So far the only thing I've really done is clay bar'd & waxed it, stuck on some clear corners and put my stereo in it. Not sure if I'm a fan of the Eagle Alloy 307's but regardless it'll be getting some more aggressive meats on it very soon.
This weekend I'll be removing my airhorn/compressor setup from the Z and sticking it on the Yukon... Along with picking up my Navigator console I got the idea from while trolling around here.
It'll definitely be a work in progress and look forward to getting new ideas from this place.
I'm pretty familiar with this platform... My father has a '97 W/T I drove for a couple of years and he still drives it. He purchased it new and it currently has just under 290K on the ticker on original everything and still kickin.
