New head unit

Have a 03 Denali. Looking to replace the system slowly. Want to start with the head unit. Clarion I would like they have the nx404 a little older but still nice this is the Jensen I'm looking at also http://www.crutchfield.com/p_110VX7022/Jensen-VX7022.html

Plans aren't to go crazy. I will replace the factory speakers. I want to get louder. Not gut shaking bass. Just clean clear. Sound. I want to make sure I start moving in the right direction before spendingns some money.

Can someone chime in how hard it is to upgrade the bose sun next. Suggestions maybe. I have 2 kids who I don't want to ruin thir hearing when they are with me.

I'm not an audiophile. In fact I haven't even listened to music a great deal over the last several years. I just installed the Jensen about a month ago in my '03 Tahoe. It's clearly not as smooth and flashy as the Clarion or something more expensive, but I don't have many complaints. I added SiriusXM to it and I've been happy. The Nav works at least as well as the Garmin stand alone unit I had been using and is easier to use, although my Garmin was pretty basic. The sound is clear enough for me. The phone calls are clear on both ends. My speakers are the weakest link now. My wife is even glad I have it. The menu can be a little cumbersome until you figure it out, but it's pretty good for a basic unit. I found mine on eBay for $200 or so. It took me about 2 hours for the complete install.

Verdict: you could do much better but you could do much worse. I'm satisfied.

Thanks for the feed back. I heard more ppl say the head unit is worth spending money on over a whole system. That being said likewise I'm no audiophile. Did you keep the steering wheel controls when you did your Jensen.

My Tahoe doesn't have SWC, onstar, or Bose. It was pretty straightforward. I think there is an adapter to keep SWC.

I had a pioneer AVIC-D3 in my 2006 YXLD. It sucked. Really bad. Put money away for a bit and I went back and forth on what I wanted for a new unit. Looked @ new pioneer units, kenwood, alpine. Then I remembered a buddy of mine told me to look into clarion. I ended buying a clarion NX405 unit. It was a little on the pricier side although that's because I opted for a backup cam to come bundled with my headunit as that was a major upgrade I wanted. I already had the module to retain steering wheel controls and the on star and door chime module. Both got wired right into the new unit. I'm extremely happy with my setup now. Sound is excellent. Very clear. Nav works perfect and Bluetooth auto connects which is really nice. The install however sucked. Im not savvy with wires. In fact I hate working with them lol. So I took it to an installer. They did a great job. It was just a bit more expensive than I anticipated. But in the end worth It as I'm very happy with my new stereo.

I am putting mine in right now. Clarion nx 605. Bout the camera but don't know where to make my connection for power.

That'll be a nice setup. And I love having the camera. And now that I have it I want a 360° camera setup. Have a client with a brand new range rover sport that has it. I was using it while parking in the diagonal spot to detail it up against a brick wall that's really hard to park in with the length of the spot. Its pretty awesome. Now I'm gonna look into doing something similar. The installer did my camera as well and I couldn't even begin to guess hows it's wired up haha.

Added a backup camera to my Alpine HU by splicing into the reverse power and ground wires at the passenger taillight. Then just ran video cable up to the HU

When you go in reverse does the head unit auto sense it? Or have to turn it own. Manually

I'm assuming that's how mine is wired up as well. Mine comes in when I put my car into reverse on its own. I think that's how most of them work.
