Sort of a cop-out answer, but I like www.fuelly.com for 'real' world mpg's. Check out the browse option and you can see cars sorted by make, model and year. And you can sort those subsections by engine.

That being said, I have gotten 19.2 on my 07 4WD Tahoe. Doing 70 with a decent tail wind on the highway, and seem to average in the low 15's going the opposite direction. My mixed driving average for the last 25K or so is around 14 MPG, but I still sometimes try to drive it like the BMW 135i coupe that it replaced.

How reliable is the MPG reading on the Tahoe's computer? Mine is 13 MPG and has been since I got it. Not too much highway driving and I tend to be a bit of a lead foot lol.

For me it has been close, usually +/- 1 mpg. I have begun to think that it does not count time spent idling. It reads high in the summer and winter when I am more likely to leave the truck idling with the heat or a/c on if I run into the store and my wife decides to wait in the truck with the kid.

I reset MPG, Fuel used and trip every time I refill. The surprising this is that the fuel used display usually differs with how much I put in the tank. Most of the time by less than a gallon.

When I was looking to trade in my 2nd Tahoe I was in the same boat, Commander or Tahoe/Yukon. I have a guy that finds me cars, and he flat out told me "you will not be happy with the Commander, it's a down grade big time". I he found me a Denali, and I am glad I listened to him. Don't know what you drive now, but I have had 2 Tahoes and now drive a Denali. I don't know if I will ever drive anything else while the kids are still "little". They drive great and never let me down. Great family truckster in my opinion.

I have averaged about 14/15 daily, 17-19 on trips.

My 2009 Tahoe is averaging about 16. My calculation were almost dead on with the read out. I drive mostly 75 percent on highway if not more.
