Hey guys, newbie here from Miami. Just purchased a 2002 Yukon SLT with 99,000 miles. Believe it or not I got it for $3,700. Former owner couldn't deal with the fuel consumption & leased a Hyundai. Go figure. Exterior definitely has issues. All the moldings are done. They are all cooked from the sun. In fact I'm already in the process of removing them. I will leave the car without any moldings for the time being. I think it looks better without them anyway. Paint is very glossy but the clear coat is pealing in a couple spots. The roof is completely faded. I will get the roof painted next month. The interior is in very good condition. It just needs a good cleaning.

Anyway, this will become my wife's daily driver in a couple weeks. Until then, there are a couple things I'd like to learn about the truck. There are fog light holes where the fog lights are supposed to go. The fog lights button works, it turns on/off. Am I to assume the SLT brought fog lights from factory? I'm removing all the chrome accents from the truck including the 22 inch wheels w/new tires. I'm selling the wheels w/tires for $1,000 firm. The rest of the chrome accents I'm tossing.

I'd like to trade my wheels for 2007-2012 OEM Tahoe wheels.

Also, I have noticed the RPM's on the truck are below 600 when the truck is idling. Is that normal?

Last but not least, I discovered there's a sub woofer in the driver's side rear of the truck. It is not working. In fact the entire stereo sounds worst than a 1986 Atari system, lol. Where is the amp located?

This is my new baby!

Welcome to the Forum! :)
I guess the amplifier is located in the middle compartment between the driver and passenger seat. At least it is so in my Tahoe.

Welcome. Around 600 rpm idle when when engine is warm is normal. In some cases the amp is located behind glove box. And if it has the fog switch, it came with fog lights factory. Look behind the bumper and you might find the wires for them.

Thanks guys.

Chauncey my RPM's are running at 400 & sometimes even 300. Ironically at 400 it still runs smooth however at 300 (when I turn the wheel while backing up) the A/C stops working. It's just too low for the compressor to spin so it just shuts off until I manually turn off/on the A/C again.

As for the amp? I will check both mentioned locations. Hopefully I find the issue.

Chauncey, how hard was it for you to get your 2007-2012 LTZ wheels? I've been trying to trade mine but it seems there's a high demand for them.

Welcome.

Truck looks awesome and I am sure itbwillnlooknawesomenim no time. Keep us posted and aendnusnupdated pics as we all love to see pics. :)

I am sure your rig originally was delivered with fog lights, so I agree with Chauncey, the wires for the lights are most likely there.

EBay is a great place to look for some new fog lights.

400 rpms seems pretty low. In WA, you wouldn't pass emissions with rpm that low.
As for my ltz's, I searched on craigslist, several times a day, for like over 6 months. I got lucky and found a sweet deal. You can also buy replicas from ebay or I believe there's a vendor on the forum that sells them.

Thanks again guys.

Yeah in Miami we don't have to pass any inspections so I don't have to worry about it but I'd like to know what's causing the low RPM's. I don't have a Check engine light on so whatever it is isn't going to give me a code. Is there a way I can pick up the RPM's like we used to on the older cars? I checked underneath the Vortec beauty cover but it's untouchable. Nothing I can do there. I'm just desperate to find a solution & I don't want to get ***** by a mechanic. I usually do this kind of work myself on my cars but this is my first Vortec. Things are a little diferrent under the hood than what I'm used to.

Do you know if its had a tune up recently? If not, might try that and cleaning the throttle body and maf sensor. Also might want to change fuel filter. These are just suggestions and might not totally fix the low rpms but they're good preventative maintenance steps.
There also might be some resistance on the serpentine belt from tensioner pulley, alt, compressor, etc. Just some ideas...

I have no knowledge of any tune ups done recently. I plan on doing one next month for sure. I'm low on budget right now. I still need to sell my prairie tan Lincoln Mark VIII. I have too many cars sitting at home right now. This Yukon is barely getting driven anywhere until end of July anyway. My wife will continue to drive my F-150 until I'm done with everything on this truck.
