You have to ship them back to Range Technology in order to have the devices updated. Not sure if there might be a charge if you try to do this with a second hand device though.

An ebay seller has new devices for sale and he's listed the software version as V8.4R1:

Mine is two months old now and it is version V8.6R1 - works great on 2017 Yukon Denali.
