in the next few months in going to be working on the sound system on my tahoe. right now ive got stock radio and everything. the rear roof speakers crackle and the door ones dont sound too much better. music is a big part of my life and i always listen to it. my friend said i should do an alpine head unit and infinity speakers. he has the capa one and they sound real nice in his car. im also buying from him 2 12" kenwood subs in a ported box and amp for that along with it. i wont be installing anything till around christmas when i have money for everything but im wondering if that would be a good set up. i know a lil about car stereo from him and doing my sisters jeep stereo sytem with new spakers and headunit and sub. what kind of amp would i need to power all 6 speakers? i was just going to bypass the stock rear door amp and run em all off one amp.

i was thinking these for al the door ones. http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/kappa639i.aspx
would they fit behind the door pannels so it all looks stock? id like to keep it looking that way.

and these for the roof ones since ive read people do 6x9s there instead of the 4x10s. http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/kappa6939i.aspx

are there any better speakers out there that arent too expensive. i dont have a lot of money to do this but i hate not beinfg able to use my ipod or even listen to a cd. all ive got is a tape player.

im still unsure as to what alipine headunit as well... he told me to wait till like christmas when i would order it so i would have the latest one but they have so many with different features. i want to do speakers now at least or get the orderd maybe

why dont you go to your local stereo store and check around for awhile to see what you really like..just casue something sounds good in your boys car doesnt mean it will sound good n the hoe...for the price of those speakers you are looking at you can get a real nice set of components that will sound alot better..then get a 4 channel for your mid n highs and a mono block for your subs will sound alot better....but its your hoe and your money so it how you like but thats my .02 good luck post pics when your done.....

I have infinity kappas in my doors. HELLA CLEAN SOUND. I'm only have them in my front doors right now because I can fit my panel over it. And it looks stock. I have the same speakers for my rear doors. But they stick out and u can't put the stock speaker grill over it. So I don't have those installed right now. I plan on gettin smaller size kappas for the rear doors. As far as ur head unit goes. Its all preference. And for ur power. Deffinitly run a four or six channel for ur mids n his. And a monoblock for yo subs. I got a 680w 4 channel hifonics titan running my his n mids, and a 2000wD1 autotek 'mean machine' for my subs....
Did have three 12" hifonics brutus' in the back. I'm currently in a change to a 15" solobaric for my bass

That's good advice. Go listen to different speakers and mess with different headunits.

I have an Alpine CDA-9885. It's a couple years old, but works like a charm. I love it! I'm a big fan of Alpine headunits and highly recommend them! They have plenty of option to expand them if you want to. Alpine also has great customer service if there does happen to be a defect, but that is pretty rare with them.

As far as speakers on a budget go, check out Hifonics components. Brand new sets run between $70-$80 last time I checked. www.sonicelectronix.com is a well organized site with plenty of specs and great pictures. Do your research since you aren't in a big hurry! Good luck and remember it is your money and your ears so at the end of the day you have to be happy with the sound!

+1... Youre going to want to use two amps as he said. And I would definitely shop around for several different types of speakers. If you go on an audio forum you can find a dealer that sells over stock stuff all the time for whole sale price. I have saved several hundred dollars by doing this on brand new competition equipment. Also, make sure that you get a good wiring kit for your amps. 4 gauge wires

Check out my profile page and look at my pics of my stereo system. I have Alpine Components in front, Alpine Type R two-ways in the rear door, Alpine CDA-9886 Deck with Ipod and Sirius/Alpine Satellite module, Hifonics Titan 680W x 4 for my interior speakers, Power Acoustik 2000w monoblock 1 channel, Rockford Fosgate Power T1 15" Sub, all 4-gauge run to each amp, monster cables, etc. I also did my initial setup with a budget, I have since replaced the Hifonics 1000w x 1 channel amp for the sub, upgraded to Monster Cables, and added a Capacitor Tube. I also have a Kia Sephia I just finished installing the system in and I have the same model deck, Power Acoustik 2000w monoblock 1 channel amp, Alpine Type R 12" Sub, Hifonics 680W x 4 channel amp for interior speakers, Alpine Type X Front Door Components, Infinity Kappa 6x8's in the rear, Ipod, Sirius/Alpine Satellite Module, Monster Cable, all 4-gauge wiring, etc. It sounds SICK!!! I hope the trunk lid doesn't fall off as I'm bumpin it down the road. Let me know if you have any question on the install part, and take your time and do it right the first time, I had to learn the hard way and had to go through and do alot of things over again and it sucked!!

If your on a budget and want a feature packed head unit check out this kenwood. Ive owned many alpines but thier quality is an issue with me. I bought this kenwood for my rx7 and loved it so much I got another for the Tahoe. Its features are endless and has usb input and bluetooth built in w/microphone, something alpine wants you to pay extra for. Its also 4v out and doesnt light up all crazy colors like most decks nowadays. I lights up white and matches closely.

I would also agree on running amped seperates and a mono sub.
