My 97 Tahoe wouldnt start & there was 1 loud click when I tried turning it over. I replaced the starter solenoid, thinking that would be it..... I'm wrong. Anyone have a good idea for my next step? I tried jumping it thinking it may be the alternator....... wrong again.

If the battery is good, check all the connections (battery terminals, starter cables, etc) then the fuses.

did you replace the whole starter or just the solenoid? Tap it with a hammer and see if that works...seriously

Hit it too hard and you can break the magnets, then it really wont work.
The key is to tap the starter while someone is holding the key in the crank position, for those who dont know.

Could also try putting in neutral and starting to see if it is being inhibited.

After having to do it once that justifies replacement for me.

By the way was that click a relay or solenoid. Is it not possible that the motor side contacts or commutator are burned out.
