Hello forum, I an new here. I just purchased a well used 99 GMC Suburban. I was looking for a good deal on a family vehicle that could seat at least 6 and pull a camper. I got a great deal on a 99 GMC Suburban 4x4 though it has the dreaded P0303 and P0300. It was a little over my skill level to diagnose so I took it to a good mechanic I know and am waiting to here back what the diagnoses is. I'm hoping it's not something internal and I realize it could be the intake gaskets. I paid $1500 for it with 223,400 miles. The truck has no rust as it spent most of it's time out west in AZ and CA. The interior is in decent shape also. Any thought? I'm hoping I got a good deal, all depending on the what is causing the misfire.

Welcome. Hopefully those codes turn out alright. Should be a good family vehicle.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I found out from my mechanic yesterday the truck sat in idle for over an hour and never misfired once. It isn't tagged yet so they didn't want to drive it but I got them a tag and they are going to let me know something today. I also found out my coolant was leaking from the bottom of the radiator which I hope means it doesn't have an intake gasket issue. I guess I will just wait and see.

Well it turned out to be a cracked head and a blown head gasket on the left side. $1700 to have have the head and intake gaskets, one head machined or replaced, a new radiator (old one had a huge hole), and a new distributor (old one had the ear broken off). I don't guess $1700 is too much for all of that including the labor involved but I was hoping to get into this thing a lot cheaper. Then again it does have 223,400 miles on it. If I had the money I would have opted for a new engine all together but that isn't possible right now.

Yeah, the rough estimate of a new engine was $4000. Not a bad deal considering it's almost half that just for the heads and gaskets but still more than I can swing right now without going in debit. And that was the point of buying a cheap Suburban rather than one less used. So I'm going to just do the heads and gaskets and hope the bottom end holds out for a good while.

Got the Suburban back now. It runs great. I do have a P0430 that wasn't there before but it hasn't affected performance or fuel economy yet. Also it passed emissions test so I'm going to just drive it a while and see what happens. It's nice to have something my entire family can get into and still have room for grandparents, the kids friends, and the dog.
