New User with a few questions on my 07 Yukon

I was wondering a few things about the stereo. I just bought the truck because I got a stupid good deal on it. That being said there are a few things I don't particularly like about it and wish were different. They are as follows and I don't know if I can do these things or not so I'm here.


1) I don't like the stock regular stereo, I wish it was navigation. Is it more worth it for me to get an aftermarket or is it plug and play with the stock GM navi units?


2) The speakers in this thing are blown to shit, I need new ones. If I get aftermarket speakers is it more worth it to get the aftermarket stereo now?

3) I want to change my center console from a jump seat, but I would like to use the rear A/C controls on the new console when that happens, does it take a rocket scientist to remove the controls on the ceiling and use the other ones? Is this even worth my time and effort?

3.1) I know in the real center consoles that aren't a jump seat there are auxiliary cigarette lighter plugs for chargers and stuff, do I need an additional harness to make these work? Or do I just get the center console, but no plugs work?

Not going into brand names or models, that's a highly personal choice and I'm not going to ruin your decision based on my biased opinions.



1: Stock GM nav units are PNP if you get the correct one. They auck ass and require a disc inserted to use nav.
Go aftermarket. With the correct adapter its damn near PNP.

2: Be carefull when selecting aftermarket speakers as most require extensive sound deadening and sealing of the doors to get good sound from them, as well as a high powered Amp.
This is the defacto. "You get what you pay for" scenario.

3: Install the console, you will love it. As far as moving the controls, WAY to much BS I would assume. I have never done it.

3.1: The 12 volt sockets can easily be tied into your front 12 volt sockets.
No worries there. Can even add USB ports for your aftermarket radio.

Thanks man. I forgot about the stupid disk crap with the stock navigation. I'm not too worried about additional wiring for the console as that doesn't seem to difficult to tie it into the existing ones.

As for speakers I was planning on doing sound deadening anyway since I'm going to have the door apart I might as well do it right.

I guess I can live with the control on the ceiling, I just don't think it looks very nice. Then again how often am I going to be in the back seat of my own truck lol.

Thanks for the welcome, and compliment. I'm sure I'll have some other good questions in the near future too once I drive it a little bit more and find out other things I want to do. So far this place is a treasure trove of knowledge and makes me want to do all sorts of projects.

I kind of figured that out already, and I'm a little bit worried. I was going to buy another project car in the near future, but I guess that's out of the question now lol.
