Newbie with a Limited with Bad Hood Paint!

I bought a Tahoe Limited earlier this week. It's in excellent condition overall, including the straightness of the body and paint...with the exception of the hood. The paint everywhere else (1st pic) is a 9 out of 10, and it's a 4 on the hood. It looks to me that it's mostly a peeling clear coat issue (2nd pic). If so, is this something that I can improve myself? My budget is tight, but if it's a matter of buffing and maybe just taking it to a shop to re-spray with clear coat, I might go that route.

Or any other suggestions would be appreciated.

It looks like its just clear coat. A shop can fix it fairly cheap doubt Itl be over $150

Not that it really matters based on your topic, but you posted in the NBS (New Body Style) section, your truck is an OBS (old body style).

Ah ha! Though the Limiteds were made in 2000, it is the old body style. Thanks for the heads up...newbieness is my excuse. I'll repost in the 91-99 forum.

You can take an air gun and spray at the spots to flake off loose clear coat. Then buff it out.

That is the cheap option. You will still be able to see the lines, but the discoloration from the flaking clear around the edge will be gone. In other words, it will look fine from 10 feet and the average person won't even notice.

shows an after shot with an explanation why in order to really fix it you have to completely repaint the hood, but sometimes it's not worth it.
