Hello,
1st thanks for the forum!!
Ok, I just bought a used 2004 Yukon. It is in great condition. I have a couple of questions. I have noticed when turning to the right or left something in the steering feels loose. We live on a winding road and that is the only time I notice it. On the interstate it feels fine. The steering wheel itself feels tight! I cannot put my finger on it. I cant really say its making any noise but it might have a slight "pop" sound to it. Its more annoying than anything but I would love to see if I can fix it. I was checking with a tech today and he said it might be a upper or lower steering intermediate shaft? Stupid question but is it usually the upper or the lower? My other question is, I have the stabiltrack and traction control. The other night I was driving and we hit a patch of ice and thankfully everything worked as it should. But, from there on I was in 4wheel drive the rest of the trip. Is the stabiltrack supposed to kick off or do I have to manually do something to turn it off? I am a bit confused with the stabiltrack. I read the manual but I am still a bit confused :) sorry for the no doubt things I "should" know!! I appreciate any help.. Thanks guys!!

It could be your intermediate steering shaft (ISS). Usually it is associate with clunking noises that you can hear/feel through the steering wheel. It's pretty easy to replace with a new version or you can install a grease zerk and pump some grease in occasionally. You can also unbolt the ISS in the engine bay and move it in and out a few times to redistribute the grease. This "should" tell you if that is the problem. Here are some threads to get you going:

As for the other issue, you're going to have to wait for someone else to chime in. I have regular 4X4, so I don't know much about the Stabilitrak.

Scott, Thanks for the reply!! Yeh, I believe that is 100% the shaft. I agree it is something you feel through the steering wheel and while I cannot say I hear anything it is a kinda clunk "feel"!! So TY and I am ordering one tomorrow. Now, If I can figure the the stabiltrack thingy out I will be set :) Thanks again for your quick reply and links!!

Our trucks have loose steering. You may just be noticing that. Welcome to the site.
