On my 02 yukon xl, when i turn the key to accessory, the voltage arm moves up to the normal 12 area, but when i start it, everything stays the same. once i start driving everything stays the same. The speedometer, tachometer, fuel level, illumination brightness, and oil pressure all stay still. Until I hit around 3,000 rpm when im driving, everything just jumps alive at once. the gauges all go to their normal place and the voltage reads above 14 like normal and the light brightness slowly intensifies to normal. sound like my alternator starting to go?

its not just the gauges that stay dim. every light in the truck stays dim including the headlights. nothing goes to full brightness until i hit that certain rpm which led me to think it was the alternator because once i hit that point, nothing dims back down again. its only at the initial start of the truck.

plus i ran a double battery setup in my truck for a few months and shortly after both the batteries went bad because i didnt have the alternator wired correctly to them. I basically had the alternator setup to charge 2 batteries at once instead of having that relay that only charges one at a time. figured maybe i put too much strain on the alternator by doing that and now its coming back to bite me?

the relay wont charge one battery at a time. it prevents your main battery from being used with the key off. you might have ran down the alt, maybe take the truck to get the alt checked out? i would suggest upgrading to a higher amp alt if you are using 2 batteries. i have a stock 135 amp alt and when it went bad i had all sorts of weird issues. radio sounded low, hid's wouldnt always ignite, erratic idle and even low gas milage. definitely have the charging system checked

Batteries Plus and perhaps some parts stores can check your entire charging system for free and tell you where any issues are (assuming the person helping you knows their shit).
