1. for mud only not rocks (rolled a jeep climbing damn rocks:emotions122:) whats better turbo or supercharger?
2. next is it even wise to add one of the above to a motor with 188k on it?

I personally prefer a Whipple super charger if you can still find one. It is hard to say how well the engine will react. It depends on your driving habits. But they are designed for stock engine to have little if any effect on the life of your engine. The blocks are cast iron so if any goes it will probably be a head gasket. If you don't have a lot of blow-by in the engine from wear I think you will be fine even with high miles on it. If you beat the hell out of it daily then you will want to beef up the engine.

You can still find them used. I wish I had the money for one I saw on eBay lately Had the extra fuel injectors and all. it was about $1100.

with a supper charger you would not need 5k rpm to get power out of it. Sounds like he is guessing but that is close to redlining too. However an msd ignition box (highly recommended with a super or turbo charger) with a rev limiter would take care of that.

I would rebuild the engine before adding something like that and build it with one option in mind

If treated right and not abused they can go for long long time with out problems. just like a stock engine. Like I mentioned ealrlier the most likely problem would be a stock head gasket.
