IMO 285/55/20s will still rub with a 1.5" level kit. Or did you mean wheel spacer? The wheel spacer may increase the rub, but it really depends on the backspacing/offset. I would go to a reputable wheel/tire shop, and they should help you out with actual measurements.

To me 20" rims look funny on offroad vehicles. I prefer more sidewall when offroading, but I actually do take it out.

I think it will be 20' AX 188's or XD series 788 I think. I'm selling the Tahoe to my little bro, he wants a tire that fills the wheel well and looks nice at stock height. Doesn't want to lift it but he will be off roading for dirt biking, towing boats and driving in Tahoe snow. Current it has 305/40/22's that gotta go. He just wants a good looking meaty tire

IMO stock height stick to 275/50/20 and even then you might have a little rubbing on the front valence. Z71 front valence is a little more space restrictive than stock which does not make sense. I think 60 series will be pushing it at 32.99 inches, and 55 series might fit at 31.91 inches. I have the Trails at 285/65/18 (32.59 inches) and I had to trim the front valence by ~2 inches even with the 2.5" level kit.

Since you mentioned snow, I would go with the Terras. The Trails are ok, but on hard packed and ice they are fair (but good as far as MTs go).

With a 1.5inch spacer in the front would a 285/55 rub a little? Sorry for all the simple questions, new to all of this. Overall the car wont have a lift kit ever installed, just want a mean look without having to raise it. Don't wanna get new tires and have it look goofy. It will have a 20' rim, unless that seems too big.

do not run wheel spacers. get the proper wheel/offset and you won't have to worry about them.

why do a 285 55 20 when a 275 60 20 is almost identical except 60$ a tire cheaper. and i wouldn't be surprised if my 2wd tahoe on 20's and 35's has been more offroad than yours. just saying.




lets listen to my advice this time please.

the ax188 is a 20x8.5 +35 offset. should work fine on a 275 60 20.

there is no such thing as an xd 788 model wheel.

My bad if I put XD788, I meant XD778. Just ordered it in Matte Black, with 275/55/20's Terra Grapplers. Hopefully it fills the wheel well a little bit more than the Good Year stock tires that came with. Currently have 22's on it and trying to dump them off. Thanks for the advice, in the end he isn't going to be doing any heavy duty off roading, just driving to the slopes, mud every now and then, and towing our boat. I'll post pics when we get this thing done, thanks again.

4x4 in general will help more than enough. should have just said xd monsters would have been easier. but that sounds like it should work out just fine.

Yes 275/55/20 may come on a few trucks from the factory but the Z71 front bumper is a little more restrictive than the base bumper. It should not be like that, but based on what others have posted base model versus Z71; the Z71 needed more trimming.

He asked about the 285/55/20 and I was providing a response. I travel offroad to go hunting, fishing, camping or mountain biking up here in Idaho and surrounding states at least twice a month, just saying. Your sig also says you have 33s and it's a weekend mall crawler .

I just had the exact same setup you have put on my 2011 Z71. The front is rubbing like crazy! Can you send or post a pic of how much you had to trim, please? Not sure what the offset is, but would've liked the wheels to stick out a little more. What do you think about wheel spacers? And, would spacers help with the rubbing at all?

I just had the exact same setup you have put on my 2011 Z71. The front is rubbing like crazy! Can you send or post a pic of how much you had to trim, please? Not sure what the offset is, but would've liked the wheels to stick out a little more. What do you think about wheel spacers? And, would spacers help with the rubbing at all?

IMO wheel spacers will not help with rubbing and might actually make it worse because the spacers make the radius arc larger. This will depend on your specs. Go to a good tire shop and discuss with them, and hopefully they can do a test fit.
