I don't think a blower is out of your price range at all. If you keep a look out you can find the radix 112 used for 2500-2800 shipped.

Now you will retain factory dravability and gain more torque and horsepower over a heads and cam package. Heres a little price breakdown.

Heads and Cam

Heads 1200 (these are cheap heads)
Head Gaskets 80
Waterpump gaslets 12
Bolts (ARP) 105
coolant 20
oil and filter 50
Cam 389
pushrods 115
balancer seal 20

Total (after shipping) 2000-2100

Now if you don't have the tools to do this on your own you are going to pay a good amount for installation compared to the blower.

I wouldn't think that you should have to worry about upgrading your transmission anytime soon. UNLESS YOU HAVE A 4L60E! if you are running a 4l70E or 4L80E you should be OK for a while.
My Yukon is a cam, exhaust, air intake and tune my Earth motors and my 4L70E is running strong with 193,*** miles.

look into some a set of heads of a LS motor, then I would look into maybe a used nitrous set up, or maybe a cheap turbo set up.
