unknown at this time.
because you don't want to mess with a pedal you can resell and if you did cut it up a smaller pad would not fit correctly. besides on a safety critical device such as that i would never dare cut it up and possibly re-weld a different pad back end on it.

Gotcha. Thanks SLC. I would have cut it and probably ended up swapping out anyway after I saw the short pedal cover didn't fit.
Made some good progress yesterday/last night into the wee hours of the morning.

custom driveshaft....I didn't post pictures but there is grease pencil all over the other side giving angles and lengths. I'm hoping a 4L60e is still a 4L60e and I should be kosher on all the lengths. Either way a driveline shop is about 6 miles from work should the need arise. Removing the driveshaft would be the easiest thing that fell out of the truck yesterday.

NP243 out and on the ground. Not too bad to just wrestle it out, press it up and rest it on the chest while I wheeled out from under the truck. Nice little baptism of tranny fluid in it too.

losing weight!

That's her setup so I could work on her while sitting up instead of on my back. Found it hugely helpful to remove the tranny support xmember and let the transmission fall a few inches to get me access to the 12 oclock and 1030 and 130 bolts on the bell. Interestingly enough the previous owner did not tell anyone this...in 2007 he replaced the original 4L60e with a reman unit. It was marked in grease pencil and oh yeah, didn't bother to replace the 12 oclock bolt. 5/6 bolts on the bellhousing to motor is fine right... :/

So she came down and out without too much trouble. Tranny fluid made a bit of a mess but that's all up and the floor might actually be a little cleaner than when I started.

Best use of the motorcycle jack in quite some time.

And my father in law brought me an engine hoist for the engine swap (whenever I'm in the mood to work on the truck through the night again...) and helped my son jack up his truck and taught him about jacks, chains, safety, etc. You can see me in the background trying desperately to get a better view of the 12 oclock bolt (that wasn't there) before I had the "drop the tran xmember and let it fall a few inches" idea.

That'll be a favorite of mine from now on.

I'll keep posting as I make progress. Gotta figure out what do do with the trans cooler lines. I'm assuming they go to their own little radiator somewhere up front that I can unbolt and just discard. anyone want a 4L60e with less than 100,000 miles on it?

Next I'll be taking the console out, ripping up the carpet and seeing what kind of holes to make in the floorboard/tranny hump to accomidate the NV4500.

Good luck with the project. Looking forward to more progress pics! I have a 98 2door sport - black and gray paint. Just last weekend I pulled the transfer case and tranny. Broken sunshell on 4l60e. So, while all that is out I might as well pull the old tired 350 with 260k on the clock. Going with a 383 stroker and the repaired 4l60e until it breaks for good. Then a 4l80e swap. I'll start a project thread here soon. Thanks for posting. Good stuff! What motor are you going with?

The motor I have is pretty good. Vortec 5.7, 189,000 miles on the clock but she starts and runs great. FIL brought the engine hoist to get it out of his garage As much As anything else. I'll likely swap a coyote into my Ford pickup before i swap out the vortec in the Tahoe. As much as I'd love to comb the junkyard for a gto 6.0 or even an ls swap, I'll leave it in there for now. My brother has a 93 2 door gmc yukon with 290,000 and she still runs good (as does the nv3500 in it). 383 seems like a nice piece though. Somewhat confused about the piston slap they're known for but performance seems stout. I know even less about a motor swap/rebuild/modding than I do about transmissions so it'll take me some time to learn enough to do it without messing it up too much. Thanks

Got to work on the truck some today. Put up the new flywheel and torqued her down. Found out that going autp -->manual you don't have to rent the pilot bearing puller from autozone since you aint got no pilot bearing on the flex plate. Further, I found out I don't have any pressure plate bolts for said flywheel. Looked around (searched here and googled) and can't find the bolts I need. I guess I could take the flywheel down and lug it around to the hardware stores to get a high grade bolt to fit. However I'm betting you brilliant guys have the bolt part numbers or something? Push comes to shove I'll call the clutch folks tomorrow.
In any case, still need to figure out what to do with all the extra wiring crap I have there in the tranny tunnel. I'd like to figure that out now while it's empty in there. I'm guessing I can pull the extras out? Where to the originate? In the engine bay I'm guessing?

Thanks!

Dave

do not cut brake pedal, replace it with the proper one!

two purple wires on the tranny range switch get connected to the clutch pedal switch instead. pink and light green wire on same auto tranny switch go to the reverse gear switch near top of nv4500.

let me know if you find light green/black and purple/white wires on the auto tranny control harness, those should be for the speed sensor on bell housing.

PCM must be re-programmed for manual tranny otherwise all hell will break loose.
that being said what if yer pcm was still programmed for automatic trans LOL the freakin hood would open and green puke would shoot out the front like in poltrigeist

She'll do that all the way to the programmer. Just want to have a clean look without a bunch of extra crap up under there I don't need before I put the nv4500 back up in there... as soon as I find the right flywheel bolts...

Oh yeah. It's the perfection clutch/flywheel/pressure plate btw
