Gotcha. Thanks SLC. I would have cut it and probably ended up swapping out anyway after I saw the short pedal cover didn't fit.
Made some good progress yesterday/last night into the wee hours of the morning.
custom driveshaft....I didn't post pictures but there is grease pencil all over the other side giving angles and lengths. I'm hoping a 4L60e is still a 4L60e and I should be kosher on all the lengths. Either way a driveline shop is about 6 miles from work should the need arise. Removing the driveshaft would be the easiest thing that fell out of the truck yesterday.
NP243 out and on the ground. Not too bad to just wrestle it out, press it up and rest it on the chest while I wheeled out from under the truck. Nice little baptism of tranny fluid in it too.
losing weight!
That's her setup so I could work on her while sitting up instead of on my back. Found it hugely helpful to remove the tranny support xmember and let the transmission fall a few inches to get me access to the 12 oclock and 1030 and 130 bolts on the bell. Interestingly enough the previous owner did not tell anyone this...in 2007 he replaced the original 4L60e with a reman unit. It was marked in grease pencil and oh yeah, didn't bother to replace the 12 oclock bolt. 5/6 bolts on the bellhousing to motor is fine right... :/
So she came down and out without too much trouble. Tranny fluid made a bit of a mess but that's all up and the floor might actually be a little cleaner than when I started.
Best use of the motorcycle jack in quite some time.
And my father in law brought me an engine hoist for the engine swap (whenever I'm in the mood to work on the truck through the night again...) and helped my son jack up his truck and taught him about jacks, chains, safety, etc. You can see me in the background trying desperately to get a better view of the 12 oclock bolt (that wasn't there) before I had the "drop the tran xmember and let it fall a few inches" idea.
That'll be a favorite of mine from now on.
I'll keep posting as I make progress. Gotta figure out what do do with the trans cooler lines. I'm assuming they go to their own little radiator somewhere up front that I can unbolt and just discard. anyone want a 4L60e with less than 100,000 miles on it?
Next I'll be taking the console out, ripping up the carpet and seeing what kind of holes to make in the floorboard/tranny hump to accomidate the NV4500.
