o2 sensor replacement issues

96 hoe with a 5.7

i need to pass emmissions by the end of the month and i have 4 codes currenty, ones for a high idle, one i donr remember and two are for o2 sensor

i have p0157 and i think p0161

so its basically saying its faulty i believe

i told the lady at advanced auto that its bank two sensor 2, so she gave me one thats a bosch part number 13474

i cant get the damn thing out of the pipe for the life of me, i tried right after driving home from work, went to advanced first and got the socket, but that dont help because its too short to get to the hex where you would stick a wrench

so i tried using a 7/8 open ended wrench (the size it says on the socket) and it seems like its just stripping the hex as i was trying to break it loose (i sprayed penetrating fluid on before i started as well)

idk if anyone has any tips or tricks for this, but i need to get it done soon so i can make sure i can pass cause otherwise a shop said basically the book time is .5 hr, and thats 60 bucks that i really dont wanna spend

Clean out IAC passage, prolly need to replace the valve, Autozone Part

Could be as simple as a vacume leak causing High idle.


O2,
get a torch, heat up the bung as hot as you can get it.. Spray pent fluid directly on it...
the extreme heat then cool down with crack the rust loose..
Do it a few times, then heat it up and try crankin it loose..

Use hammer to hit end of wrench mutch like a impact would do...
If you just cannot get it out.. say **** it and have a 3$ bung welded on and install new O2.
Just leave old one stuck in there..

i"ll try heating it up tmrw like that, cause i got pissed enough already at it, and i'll look into that iac part

i might not even go and replace this if i can keep the ses light off for long enough cause after this emission i dont ever need to worry about it again

i cleared the codes and its stayed off for longer than it was before so i might have a shot

Yeah those codes mean that sensor or it wires are shorting and it will have to be fixed. It is throwing your system into an open-loop mode. Heating may be the only option but try to heat the exhaust pipe and not the o2 sensor as much as possible. And you will most likely not make this go away long enough to pass. Emissions reediness monitors are built in the pcm that test these thing for normal function before being ready for a shop test. You can be failed if the readiness monitor checks are not complete. If they are complete chances are the codes for a malfunction unit are stored. They plug into the data link to find out.

my dad ended up trying and succeeding in pulling the sensor, turns out it was so hard because the person prior cross threaded the ***** in

we used a 3/8 18 tap (not sure if its the right size but we got it) and redid the hole, pushed the thing in and it hasnt thrown a code for that yet

the other code i got is i believe a p0507 for the high idle btw for anyone that wants to chime in on that

but thanks for the help before

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Vehicle Control Module (VCM) controls the idle speed with an Idle Air Control (IAC) valve to a calculated desired RPM based on sensor inputs and actual engine RPM. The VCM uses 4 circuits in order to move an Idle Air Control (IAC) valve, allowing a varying amounts of air flow into the intake manifold.

In order to increase the idle RPM, the VCM moves the IAC valve out, allowing more air to bypass the throttle plate. In order to decrease the RPM, the VCM moves the IAC valve in, reducing the amount of air bypassing the throttle plate. A scan tool reads the VCM commands to the IAC valve in counts. The higher the counts, the more air that is allowed to bypass the throttle plate (higher idle). The lower the counts, the less air that is allowed to bypass the throttle plates (lower idle). This DTC is a type B DTC.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING DTC

Passive Test


  • No Throttle Position (TP) sensor DTCs set.
  • No Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) DTCs set.
  • No Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) DTCs set.
  • No Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) DTCs set.
  • ECT is greater than 72°C.
  • Intake Air Temperature (IAT) is greater than -25°C.
  • Barometric Pressure (BARO) is greater than 70 kPa (10,300 ft.).
  • Vehicle Speed is less than 2 mph.
  • System voltage is between 10 volts and 18 volts.
  • Engine run time is greater than 30 seconds.
  • TP is less than 1%.
  • Above met for a time greater than 3 seconds.
  • Change in Calculated Air flow is greater than 2 counts.
If the passive test fails, the active test is ran.

Active Test



  • Calculated Air Flow is between 17.5 grams per second and 37.5 grams per second.
  • Vehicle Speed is between 35 MPH and 85 MPH.
  • Change in TP Sensor is less than 1%.
  • Change in engine speed is less than 50 RPM.
  • AC motor commanded to 10% for 100 msec.
  • Change in Calculated Air Flow is greater than 3 counts.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
The VCM will turn ON the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) after 2 consecutive driving cycles with the fault active.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE MIL/DTC
The VCM turns the MIL off after 3 consecutive driving trips without a fault condition present. A history DTC will clear if no fault conditions have been detected for 40 warm-up cycles (coolant temperature has risen 40°F from the start-up coolant temperature and the engine coolant temperature exceeds 160°F during that same ignition cycle) or the scan tool clearing feature has been used.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
The following items could cause this DTC:



  • An IAC valve which is stopped and cannot respond to the VCM.
  • A throttle stop screw which has been tampered with.
  • A damaged throttle or linkage.
A slow, unstable, or fast idle may be caused by a non - IAC valve system problem that cannot be overcome by the IAC valve. Out of range control IAC scan tool counts will read above 60 if the idle is too low and zero if the idle is too high. Check for the following:

thanks sunlit, i never saw the diagrams but its straight cause the info gave me enough understanding to know id pass emmissions cause it takes 2 drive cycles or some shit like that

i might get around to fixing it sometime but i dont have funds to spend on that atm
