The rear oem splash guards for my 2024 Yukon come with a rivet (wtf?) for each one and, from what I’m reading, it goes through the fabric wheel well liner. What purpose does this serve given that there are screws already?

Anyone install these and not use the rivet? What a pain… lol.

See pic attached with rivet and insert location circled in yellow.

I'd probably just go with a friction push pin. That way you can remove easier down the road if needed. Or put in a small stainless screw and nut

A rivet wouldn't use a very big hole you should be able to use a screw instead.
Yeah, just wondering why a rivet is even part of GMC’s instructions? Just to make it more likely you’ll use the dealer for install? lol

I also bought some 3M scotch guard paint protection film so the mud guards don’t scratch my paint.

Well started it late tonight. Installing the rear guards is a complete pain in the a$$ with the tires on. Instead of a rivet thru the wheel well liner, I just used an 8mm screw with washers on bother sides and a nut on the end.

I also had to do the same for the lower fascia screw as the 13/64” pre-drill hole is too big and doesn’t leave enough meat for the supplied screw to catch. I’ll dab a little black rustoleum on the screw to blend it in a bit better.

Yeah they were a pain but I do like the look. If I had to do it all over again.. I would have went with the weather techs. Not worth my time to do this.
