I've got a 99 Yukon 4wd and I'm changing a lower ball joint, well trying to. I've got everything apart. It's just the swing arm sitting there with the lower ball joint connected to the spindle. Why the hell won't the spindle drop off and how am I supposed to get that damn ball joint outta there?.. I've beat on it and pickle forked and tried c-clamp tool from auto parts and I get nothing! It does have a little lift and torsion bars are cranked all the way up if that matters. Does someone know something I can try?... I was thinking gas and a match at this point...

the knuckle I have no secret to make it let go. ive used special separators. pickle forks, and a homemade separator. my go to method is turn the knuckle as far to one side as it will go and hit the loop with a 2+ lb hammer as close to the center as possible. should drop out for you.

now the lower ball joint is a PAIN! I had to do mine 2 times (just use moog the first time its worth the cost). the second time around I used a GM ball joint clamp that was made to fit 95-99 GM trucks. If you know anyone that may have one of BEG them to use the damn thing. it fits on the lower a arm perfectly and you can use a impact to bust it loose! if you cant find one of those you can try one of the universal clamps they rent at part stores. I will tell you I had to try 3 different stores to find one that would fit on mine and the one I finally found every time I would clamp it down the damn cup would eventually shift pop off :flame:.... the way I eventually got it off was I lifted the truck up in the air. lowered the it down on a piece of pipe that fit right around the ball joint and hit it a million times with a sledge till it finally popped out. I used every method I could find online before finally doing that. It was like the thing was fused together. hope your luck is better than mine!

I finally got it. Pretty much the same thing as you. I just wasn't smackin it hard enough I guess. Now the new one was a ***** to press I'm also. It kept wanting to go crooked. After quite a few hours of trying to get it straight and another trip to the parts house because I ripped the boot on the first one, I finally said scree it and I'll see if it straightens up. And it did.. The pres. They loaned me was shit. What finally ended up doing the job was just putting a floor jack under the ball joint with one of the steel cups and smackin the shit out of it while raising. It sat in place finally and I'll never do that myself again! lol. I was tempted to have a bonfire

lol glad you got it done! the crazy thing is how fast you can do it with that GM press. it will press the old one out as fast as your impact will run and press an new one in just as quick. no idea why the parts store ones aren't made a little better
