ive used both red and yellow. the red is for normal usage (starting & electronics w/o alternator). while the yellow is better used for electronics w/o alternator for a longer period of time.

a red has more output, but less storage. not that the storage is any slouch. a yellow has less output, but waaay more storage. Perfect for car audio or non-starting activities like tail gating, winching, etc.

some real-world examples. red top in my q45 i can listen to xm for 4+ hours (2,000+ watts) and still start the car. with the yellow top, i can listen to the radio for 8+ hours and still start the car. a normal battery would be drained in about an hour.

i've also used red + yellow with a phoenix gold isolator. red for starting, yellow for audio.

Currently i run a red top in my 05 Escalade with factory sound. not starting or storage issues.

^1+. All Optima batteries are great, and no matter which one, Red or Yellow Top, they are the best. IMO. My experience with Red tops has been great, but used on classic cars where CCA where needed. But if left unattended, and drained, they seemed to not recover very well, if at all. But this is after a few years of use. I just switched to Yellow because I run alot of accessories, sometimes without vehicle running, and wanted extra recovery power. Just wanted to share my experience with both, again.

I could see that the Red Top is better in terms of electrical installations, but I discovered that the yellow top is the best I've seen and were having the vast praise in Red Top

I will use the red top .. Thank you

Go with Red. Ive had mostly reds but one yellow. Guy next door gave a me a yellow he had just sitting in his garage for a year. Dropped it in my car and it started right up. Crazy. I put Optimas in all of my cars now.

I have used two yellows, lasted a long time.

I just switched to the Diehard Platnium, equivalent for a Optima. They run sales, 179.99 compared to 199.99

Glass Matt Technology where its solid lead plates with Fiberglass sponges to hold the charge.

There is a video on youtube of them shooting a battery and it still starting the truck after it was blasted to pieces.

I noticed the start up was quite peepier then running my yellow tops.

I have yet to use a yellow, but after reading this I am thinking that I might switch to a yellow, I have ran Red's, and always seem to have a dead battery after a couple days. (cant find what could be draining so quickly). Either way has happened in both of my trucks. Since I have had a decent sized stereo in both, equivillant power, I think I am going to switch to a yellow.

I have heard that if you ran a yellow to no power, that it takes a special optima charger ONLY for the yellow tops due to its charging system? Anyone hear of this or can clarify?

Thanks.
