There is not a whole lot to add other than i have red tops yellows and a blue top. I have 2 race cars both of which have yellows in them my tahoe has a red for starting and a yellow for accessories my dodge dakota has a red for starting. We have used some of them for around 5 years. I have never had a dead battery unless there was another problem that caused it to drain. We run yellows in our drag cars because they dont get much time running the alternator at least at high rpms so it needs to hold as much voltage as possible. MSD ignition boxes are very picky about voltage especially the Digital ones which is all we run... Anyway if you have a dead optima you dont need a special charger to recharge it. Those of you that read HOT ROD magazine might have noticed an article about 8 months ago that talks about it. Basically all you have to do is hook up another battery to the optima pos (+) to pos (+) negative (-) to negative (-) aka hook it up in parallel. Then hook any old charger to the dead optima. Pretty simple and the battery should be good as new once you complete the charging cycle. I have done it on 2 yellow tops both are working great and can start just about anything i own. One thing to note if you have an old style charger never charge a Optima or other AGM with greater than 10 amps. Its not good for them.
To those that have trouble draining an optima it sounds like one of the cells is "dead" doing a charge as i explained should solve your problem unless you have some sort of electical grimlin that is constantly draining your battery beyond the typical. most new vehicles have a memory function or ecu pcm radio all that fun stuff and that will constantly drain your battery. If your battery is already compromised it could very well drain it in a matter of a couple of days. But if all the cells are good it should last weeks with no problems.
