Well, the V4 is back. On the drive back from vacation the V4 showed up a few times intermittently and then went back to normal. It’s like it was disabled/reset and then had to relearn. Sorry to get people’s hopes up, but this was strange. Maybe GMC will offer a V4 permanent disable option.

I'm all for saving gas but not at the cost of reliability. Improve the tech and I'd be more willing to let the AFM do its thing. Still, there should be a disable button in the DCIM.
