This last truck I had was a Trailblazer SS with the LS2 in it and it required synthetic. I sent my oil off to a lab at 3k and they told me I could go another 1500 and that was about where the oil percentage ran out. The 08 Yukon I’m running regular oil and I’m going to send the oil off at 3k and see what they tell me. I have 3600 on it now and I changed the oil at 500 and 1800, this will be the first oil change I run for 3k. It does seam like the oil percentage life runs down a lot quicker in the Yukon.

I go every three thousand miles, and i was told not to trust the oil life monitor by the GMC dealer.

Having your oil changed every 3000 miles is a marketing scheme to get people in there doors. ANYONE who says that a late model car needs to have the oil changed @ 3000K is just trying to steal your money.

Change the filter at 3000 and the oil at 6000.

Are you saying you change the oil filter at 3K??? And not the rest of the oil??? Can you tell me the logic behind that? Changing the filter without the rest of the oil would not do anything for you. The main reason you need to change the filter with the rest of the oil is that if you dont, you still have a quart of dirty oil from the filter. The oil filter itself does not go bad after 3K.

I would hope you are reffering to the air filter?

I think this depends on environment and driving conditions more than a marketing ploy. Temps in the 100s during summer, towing a boat on weekends, and generally dusty conditions, I change at 3K. Funny though, I though my rig had 9K miles as I have changed the oil three times. I have 7,500 miles. I forgot the first change was at 500 miles. Besides, there is nothing 'wrong' with changing oil every 3K. It's only $15 at my dealer...

why send off to the lab if you change at 3000 miles? As engine wears, get looser tolerances, etc, the lab results will vary depending on age.

Haha I changed out at like 9k miles and the car didnt get back to 0% till 15,*** miles, but then again thats mainly highway driving.
New cars don't need an oil change every 3k miles, especially when you use Mobil ! Extended Perf. 5W-30 15k mile synthetic oil, with that and the K&N wrench on filter, I just replace it when the car tells me too.

Only new model cars subject to alot of bad conditions and brutality need a change every 3k, not a Texas 2WD lowered truck lol :hands:

Plus why would the oil be changed w/o the filter??????
