So i know its normal for older cars to consume oil as they get older but the past month ive had to add about a quart of oil into the car in less than 1,000 miles. Is this normal or could i be looking a more serious issue. Just rolled 150k and ive heard this is when the AFM problems start to occur. Any warning signs or stuff to check? I know this can get expensive quick and i pushed a whine off for too long then it costed me a whole diff rebuild so any help would be appreciated. No leaks either.

Step 1: Get a catch can to capture oil vapor
Step 2: Tune out the AFM

These two steps should really help or eliminate oil consumption.

I have done both and they do help. I have also heard of switching to a higher oil weight but have not personally tried that.

I still run old 5w30 with no AFM (BB Tune) and a catch can. Honestly can't say the last time the amount in the catch can was north of 4 oz.

A catch can is an oil /air separator that installs in the PCV line between the crankcase and the intake manifold. It's job is to remove oil from the air being recycled from the crankcase vent back to the intake.

The most popular tune here is Black Bear Performance. They have a few methods to choose from.

Awesome thank you very much. I'll be digging into research now.

I have a 07 with 244,000 on it and it used to use a quart about every 700 miles. I bought a Range unit which plugs into the socket that you use to check engine codes. The Range shuts down the AFM and the oil consuption went down to around a 1/2 half quart between changes.

May want to look into that option as well.
