My oil pressure drops low after warm up at a stop light..Then when I take off it goes back up to normal and I've just started to hear very minor lifter tap on driver's side bank. I'm going to install an oil cooler delete adapter so the pump doesn't have to work as hard and of'course change oil and filter at same time,2 questions for you all?? #1 is it safe to operate my 99 GMC 5.7 VORTECH without oil cooler,I do not pull anything, just put put around town..#2 question, I've put nothing but Mobil 1 full high mileage full synthetic in it since I've owned it,also usually with a zinc syn. Oil treatment additive...If my pressure doesn't return to normal at warmed up idle then what. I just hit 204000 miles. Has ran perfect until I raced to another town to get my son out of trouble the other day. That's when this problem began..Please someone advise me.I need this vehicle to last I'm on a fixed income!!!And all alone with a 4 year old broken neck injury.......

Not sure what you're calling "low oil pressure", but it is normal for the pressure to be lower after warm-up. It's also normal for the pressure to increase with acceleration from idle.

As far as deleting the oil cooler, you're basically changing from the 4wd to 2wd configuration.

If your mileage is concerning you, relax... 204k is still strong assuming you've maintained a good maintenance history. I've got ~381k on mine (326k on original motor, 55k on HT383E crate) and I've done waaaay more than put-put around town with mine.

I like it...more torque and power on tap in a sleeper setup. Though it will run on the factory computer tune, I recommend getting a computer tune to wake it up (fuel mapping is a bit different than the 350).

I have a black bear ECM so no problem with the tune. just trying to decide if I should do a 383 or LS swap. 383 makes the most sense so it would just bolt in with all the mods I already have

That's the same reason I went with the 383 over the LS swap...
In order to do the LS swap, you'd have to change quite a bit: computer, ignition system, intake, engine/trans harnesses, exhaust (headers), radiator (plumbing is different), etc.... I didn't have time, money, nor the desire to go through all of those changes. Not to mention, the LS motor is more of a "top end, high rev" setup compared to the Gen1/LT motor, which more low-end torque oriented.
