oil cooler line concerns from other posts

Hello

I have a 1995 4x4 Tahoe 50,000 mile

I have had at least 3 or 4 set of these oil cooler lines on the Tahoe. I even wrapped cloth around the lines then put the plastic sleeves over the rags and tie-wrapped them overtop. Now they must be leaking again, as I have oil on the cross member behind the rad, in the drive, and when I grab the line I get an oily hand.

I assume they are leaking where the metal tube is crimped to the hose, such a poor design...at least I think.

I can't afford the dealers to do .. so it is DYI ??

1) Are the Dorman 107 & 108 good? Seem to be same as dealers, except 17 & 19 dollars.
2) Do I need to get the 2 fittings that go onto the oil pump? Or can I use the old ones?
3) Do these fitting break? As I read another post about being pot metal?
4) What about the plastic clip that holds the pipe into the fittings ... do they come separate or with cooler lines?
5) Does the "O" ring that goes into the rad come with the cooler line?
6) I read another post to just buy two brass plugs and get rid of these lines completely?
7) Can I do this without a hoist, by laying on the ground.

Thanks I know this is a lot to ask, but I am stuck and need to do this to save some dollars.

Man you need that fel Pro gasket kit for the adapter. It could be the housing

1. get the delco hoses

2. the oil pump is inside the oil pan if the leaks are coming from the fitting on oil filter adapter the you should replace the fittings.

3. never heard about one breaking before myself.

4. new lips are available individually from the dealer but also come with the fittings.

5. it is supposed to.

6. Do not under any circumstances do that at all. fix it and fix it right.

7. depends on how flat you are laying down.

But the oil is on the hoses that I wrapped, near the rad and dripping onto the cross member behind the rad. If I grab the line near the steering box, I get oil on my hand.

Thank you Sunlit I think the adapter is okay. I get oil on my hands when I grab the cloth wrapped hoses right beside the steering box... so hose is suspect.
I am fairly slim...I can change oil from underneath. ron3033

uh, behind the steering box? are you sure those are not the power steering houses? and about the time you pass the pulleys going backwards that is pretty much metal line mounted against the block. similar to this:

It is the engine oil cooler hoses, they go into the rad and curve right by the steering box. The Tahoe just cost me $180 to get exhaust leaks fixed passenger side y pipe connector to manifold and leak around oxygen sensor. They took down y pipe, did a nice weld job where o2 sensor had a little whistle leak. New studs, pucks, clamps ...... labour. Just what I did not need right now.

Called the local GM dealer one oil cooler line was $72.49 & the other was $75.52. What makes these so expensive? Did Delco change how the supplier makes them?
I have had both Delco and Dorman ... seem the same in the past ... looks wise and performance wise, 4 years seems to be all they last.
Dorman are 17 & 19 $$. Do you know anything as to why the Delco are so costly, and I never had any better luck with the Delco... other than paying more.

They should modify these to be braided hoses possibly that would work better.

Your thought are most appreciated.

delco are generally from the manufacturer that originally built the production part. gm and delphi part numbers differ but delco will re-brand them. all gm really for the most part. will add cost for profit and what not like any other. as for prices higher overall then other brands better materials, better quality standards, better reliability. as for life span make sure they are not twisted or that you have some environmental condition that maybe effecting them. wipe them clean occasionally. i have a 96 with a vortec engine and my lines and seals are all oem from production. you could put split loom tubing on them if not already included. but still clean and check them.

I live in an area that has 20 below winter and 90 degree summers. When it gets warmer I will take off the rags from under the loom materials and see how bad they are leaking.

I just never get more than 4 years whether GM or aftermarket hoses.... Unless the Gm dealer did not have Gm parts that day, and used aftermarket parts and really put it to me. Hmmm?? I wonder?
Too late to complain as that dealer disappeared with the restructure of GM.

it is possible the temp swing you have might be ******* them.

also make sure all mounts are in good condition so nothing is loose to vibration effects.

I thought about the temp swings too, but that means all of the other people must endure these leaking hoses also. Will check the mounts are tight when i get new hoses to put on, the current mounts are tight. It snowed today! So I guess it will be a while before I change these. Last year it was short sleeve weather at this time.
