You have no idea! Transmission goes so I grab a used one. In the process of removing old one all of the y-pipe to manifold studs snap so I have to extract those. Then I notice 4/12 manifold bolts have broken heads and, while removing manifolds dipstick snaps. Now, while removing starter to get at dipstick the starter falls and the battery wire snaps off.

That sucks and is how it foes for me too sometimes. Usually it happens when Mrs GeorgeB is in a fantastic mood and wants nothing more than me working on a truck....

Geewiz! Sounds like the debacle I got myself into recently. I tell you guys “if I didn’t have $*** for luck I wouldn’t have any at all”.

Here is a photo of how I recently (as in days ago) solved the very same issue.

(x1) Long hex head lag bolt.
-screw that baby in straight until it bites, give er’ one more 1/4 turn and then attach a slide hammer with whichever attachment you want to use. One or two good draws with the hammer and your broken tube will be free of the block.

Don’t forget to drain your oil, after you’re all done. It wouldn’t hurt to run a little clean oil through it while the plug is removed and/or “punch the bore” (i.e. clean the bottom of the oil pan with a couple long q-tips) just to make sure you get any loose debris removed.

Will give it a shot this morning. I planned on doing an oil change anyways. Can always stick a magnet in the drain hole and fish about.

So I am going to try 2 methods:

1) put 2 nuts and a washer on a 1/4 bolt and rice bolt into hole. Put washer and nut flat against hole and turn second but. Hoping the double washer method will pull the bolt out with the tube.

2) drive 1/4” bolt into hole. From below tap the head of the bolt with pry-bar and hammer...and if that doesn’t work I will try the air-chisel.

Didn’t work out...nothing will even budge it. I got a 1/4 lag in there, heated the hole and that hit it with a prybar and hammer...nothing. Hit it with the air chisel...nothing.

Then the lag bolt snapped inside the hole. So, looks like I will be going without a dipstick!
