Oil filter adapter leak (thinking of swapping for older version

My adapter is leaking on my recently purchased 99 yukon. I have done a TON of research and it seems like the oil cooler lines are another problem area for these trucks. From all my research it seems like alot of people are doing away with the lines and running a early model oil filter adapter. I am very interested in doing this. I am unfamiliar with the older adapters, when I look up the part it shows the adapter but there is no "large" area for the filter gasket. Or are the older versions different and the oil filter gasket is small and wraps right around the "stud" that it spins onto? Thanks for any help from a newbie
