Oil filter difference ?

For my full flow filters, I use Fram Ultra oil filters from WalMart whenever possible and have for many yrs. I cut open my filters when I change them and have never seen an issue with the Fram Ultra. I do used oil analysis too. I've never had an oil filter problem.

I run an engine oil bypass filtration system on the Yukon and my FJ Cruiser.

I wouldn't use anything with the word 'FRAM' on it, near it, once referred to as such, nor do I ever in this life even think of anything, even if it was for my pets and beneficial to same. FRAM is the last thing I'd ever consider for my Truck.

And this feelings are dur to their OWN actions. They pissed down too many legs, (Mine included) over the years. When I worked in Garages for the years and years, they had a chance to improve their product, but money is what guided them, I'd leave a dirty oil filter on instead of using one of theirs. Now I hope they will never get $0.10 from me ever again. Since the 70's they have killed at least 50 engine I know of or have had interment relations of. Never ever !

I like the ultra synthetics. I swap back and forth between those and the amsoil units. Wouldn't touch anything else in fram's lineup but their top tier ones are actually really nice


Uhh... Those are basically the only 2 filters I touch. Ever. My shopping criteria is: Thick case, synthetic media, mesh back, good flow rates, good filtration performance. Granted some of this is because I work my filters kind of ******* account of a high volume / high pressure pump. I'll see 100-120 psi at redline. High 60s on a cold start idle. Hell, I'm at 80psi at 1400rpm if I start my rig up when it's in the teens. While I'm aware that most filters on the market are burst tested to north of 300psi, I'd rather not chance things like poor crimps or case inflation causing issues in the long term.

I'm of the opinion that if you need to budget for an oil change, get cheaper oil before a cheaper filter. Engines will run for years on inexpensive oil. But a filter failure, or a filter allowing particles to float about your engine will kill it very quickly. Even the best oil you can find won't do anything for large particles getting squeezed between 2 surfaces under high pressure. Shit's abrasive.
