My wifes element has the worst filter placement ever.. i have to do the screw driver method almost every time bc you cant use a strap there is no room.. barely room for my stubby screw driver to get it off... oil filters can be a *****...

^^^this is exactly the reason why I switched to K&N oil filters on the Burb because they come with the nut on the bottom which makes them infinitely easier to get on and off. The 07+ rides are a PITA to get on and off too because of the filter being kind of nustled up again the oil pan so it's hard to get them tight enough and hard to get them off so now I spent a few extra bucks for the K&N filter.

From experience...once you get the filter off make sure the old gasket comes off too. Overtorqued filters or those installed without a film of oil on the new gasket tend to stick the gasket to the block. Installing a new filter and gasket over the old gasket will make your garage a slippery mess as the new oil pumps out between the 2 gaskets!
Once you have the old filter and gasket off, clean the gasket seat on the block with a lint-free rag, spread a liberal amount of new motor oil on the new gasket and install the filter only hand tight.

This thread begs the question: are there any good relocation kits for these trucks? I know I'd love to run a bigger filter in an easier to service spot.

unknown at this time.
If you want they will sell you the parts to install the fram drag racing filter on your rig.
That is a 400 psi burst strength filter over 6.8 in long and 4.5 in diameter.
