Oil leak

Welcome to the "My Truck is leaking oil" club. I have been chasing a leak off and on for months. I too replaced the Block Off Plate with no luck. I have tried many different types of oil and they do seem to help but oil alone is not going to stop the leak entirely. High Mileage Conventional oil seems to help. Not even going to worry about it my oil pressure is perfect the motor runs great and cardboard under the truck is Free.

LOL, I feel honored. I'm not new to the club I've owned many of the old Mercedes diesels and those leaked like a sieve. Thanks for the advice.

I hate to scare ya, but the rear cover is a very common source of oil leaks. All of the above is true as well, but you may have to bite the bullet and do the rear main.

I just completed doing my rear main myself. It's not bad if you have time, the right tools, and patience. What I found was that the rear main seal itself was probably not bad, but the rear cover seal leaks much more. Either way, the transmission has to come out for the rear cover or main, so you'd have to do them both. Oil tends to run down to the back of the oil pan, then run across to the sides. So, from beneath, it's impossible to distinguish between oil pan and rear main seal. You might be able to pull the bell housing inspection plate out and see, but the flexplate is in the way.

I'd do the easy stuff first noted in the earlier posts. They are cheap and easy to do. Then I'd do the oil pan next, followed by the rear main. Unfortunately, I don't think you'll be done until the rear main is done.

Sorry, I missed that. But, did you replace the rear cover seal at the same time? Also, according to Felpro, the rear main must be installed dry around the crankshaft. They claim if you oil the crankshaft side of the seal it will leak.

However, it does look as if it is one of the other things is causing your leak.

Yes the cover seal was too, I think. It was a few years ago. Dorman one I got was crap. Returned it and got a NAPA one.
