Oil leak?

Some does. I was also changing my oil and filter, so I had mine drained anyway. I believe it is on the clean side of the oil filter, so the anti-drainback valve in the filter may normally have more oil trapped than I saw. Even so, it should only be what is trapped in the oil drillings in the engine.
Give the area a good cleaning before you take it apart. You don't want a piece of dirt to end up in the oil drillings.

Mike, make sure the cap is perfectly flat on it's mating surface (set it on a piece of glass, or something known perfectly flat and see if you can either see air, or push a feeler gauge under it). If not, you'll want to make sure it is.

I'd not use any gasket sealer on that gasket. It's manufactured to be both reusable and assembled dry (no sealer).

There is a tsb that says to use rtv on both sides. I'll see if I can find it.

Just ran across a receipt from the PO. This gasket was replaced at 136k miles (184k now).

Did this gasket fix the leak?

Maybe for a while. It seems to be marginal design.

Thanks. I was thinking the same. I checked both surfaces for scratches, and I checked the cap flatness. Everything looked perfect.
