Hope everyone is having a nice Thanksgiving! I unfortunately have an issue with my 05 Yukon, the other day I was halfway to work and noticed my oil pressure gauge was pinned at 80, now a few days later it will go from 80, to 0 back to 80 and alternate between the two. And will throw a "low oil pressure" light on the message center but goes away by the time I look down at it. Does this sound like something urgent? It does it with the key in the on position as well so I figured it was nothing drastic if it happened without actually starting the vehicle.

Put a manual gauge on it to check the oil pressure. More than likely it's a stepper motor in the cluster going bad.

If it goes to 80 with the engine off, it's most likely the sending unit. You can check the pressure with a mechanical gauge if it puts you at ease. Plenty of write up on changing the sensor. It's a little tricky to get to, but guys make it sound worse than it is. It's a $20 part and a 20 minute job, really. Make sure you use AC Delco, there have been problems with aftermarket makes.

Gauge has always stayed pinned when running (or perhaps key forward) when the sensor has been bad for me.

Obviously it isn't an engine issue but could be the stepper motor as said above.

I've had it bounce from one end to the other, too. It just depends on the nature of the short. IMO, the sensor is such a cheap and easy thing to change, I always blame it first, lol.

I wasn't very concerned, hasn't ran any different and no codes so as long as it's something non threatening I'm not too worried, thankyou for your answer!
