Question ???

My oil pressure will start to fluxuate after I sit idle for about 20 minutes... Anyone know why?

Would it be the pressure sending unit? Which is like $25...

Or oil pump giving me signs of failure to come?

Motor runs strong, only does this after idling for like 20-30 minutes... Not while driving. Has good oil pressure while driving.

Any mechanics out there?

Any info guys?!?!?

Thanks

That's what I was thinking it might have been because it only happens when I idle for awhile, like 20-30, not at a light or anything else. I get paid tomorrowso I'm headed to autozone to get one for $25.. I jut replaced the O2 sensors on it, so my mileage has gotten a little better.

A good webite I found for the O2 sensors and was cheap is
www.rockauto.com

got them for like $33 each vs autozone $75 and up!

I'm gonna try that seafoam next!!

Just figured I'd ask around anyways!!

Guess I'm making a pit stop @ an auto parts store on the way home from work today to get one... $25 is always better than $350.00 for the oil pump!

Thanks for the info... I'll keep you posted!

Holly crud!!! I went to change it and realized that 1, I didn't have the right size wrench (1") to get it off and 2, it's located under the distributor which is a pain in the ass to get to! I'm gonna go get the right wrench later and hopefully get it changed and take some pics so maybe this link can be made a sticky for everyone!

Ok, got it done! Last night!

One thing I will say first is you must have PATIENCE!!

The Oil Pressure Sending Unit/Switch $25.00 (Autozone)

It's simple to install, it's just located in a really crappy place!

It is under the distributor! (Top of motor near firewall)

#1 - Romve the screw holding the air intake from the motor and move that out of your way.

#2 - You'll have to remove the dist. cap and plug wires (Make sure you mark them!!!)

#3 - You'll have to climb on top of some part of your radiator shrould to look directly down from the top of the distributor and to the right of it you'll see the oil pressure switch and where it screws into.

#4 - Unplug the old oil pressure swith...

#5 - The oil pressure switch is a 24mm wrench size... Or you can use what I did which I found to be easier because of the position you are in is CHANNEL LOCK PLYERS!!

Once you've loosened the old one, it comes out easy, now just do the opposite to install the new one!

FYI ! Be careful installing the new one, I broke the plastic part of the switch on the old one trying to take it out with the wrench, that's why I went with the channel lock plyers....

It's a pretty simple install, just a very inconvenient place!

Good luck with your installs and hope this helps!!!!

NOTE: I have noticed that my Oil Pressure doesn't fluxuate as much as it did before, I'll let you know more about the sitting for 20-30 later today!!

Thanks
