In the winter I use either 5w-30 or 0w-20, depending on my budget. Living in Alaska, the difference between 0w and 5w is pretty impressive at -40 at startup, 0w gets around in seconds while 5w takes up to 20 seconds.
In the summer, when I used to live in Eastern Washington, I would put 10w-40 or even 20w-50, depending on how hot it would get. Here in Fairbanks I'll prolly just stick with 10w-40 in the summer.
And I can go 6,000 miles on a change of Valvoline high mileage blend and a Wix filter from NAPA. Right now with 5,500 miles on the oil, having driven through winter on this oil, it still has color and the truck runs great.
I would think with yours, in the shape it's in, I would stick with 10w in the summer and 5w in the winter and change it when it gets close to black.
