I thought it'd be best to move this issue here from the general forum.

I'm hearing alternator whine in my left front speakers (door and a-pillar tweeter).

First a brief diversion... I'm also hearing a buzz when the dash lights are set anywhere between off and full brightness in the right side speakers. The buzz gets worse as the dash lights get dimmer. I went to remove the dimmer control wire to the HU but there isn't one. It appears that the brightness is communicated via a data buss. For now I'm just leaving my dash lights at full so I don't hear the buzz.

Back to the whine... In trying to track down the whine I've disconnected power to all aftermarket additions and had no result. Then I took the HU out and swapped the pins in the connector for the left front and right front speakers - thinking that if the problem was in the HU the whine would move. It didn't. The LR balance was reversed so I know I did that right. I put the pins back where they belong.

Diversion 2: I didn't check to see if the buzz moved too when I had them swapped. :emotions122:

Now I want to swap the front left and right speaker wires that leave the Bose amp. If the whine moves I'll know it's being generated in the amp. If the whine doesn't swap I'll suspect a pinched speaker wire.

I'll add that the whine gets much worse when I plug in the rear stereo/climate controller. I removed it when I found that it exaggerates the whine problem.

My question is, what's an easy way to get to the Bose amp under the console? The FSM makes it sound like a lot of work. I was hoping that I could lift out the console's main compartment bucket by removing the 5-6 screws visible when I open the lid. It doesn't appear so.

Thoughts? Advice? This may be where my problem is. The aftermarket people did quite a bit of work in there, including a AC converter. (to which I pulled the fuse when debugging)

Any Bose amps collecting dust?

I got to the amp and swapped the left and right side going out of the amp. The buzz/whine moved from the left to the right. I put them back and then swapped the wires going into the amp. The buzz/whine stayed in the left speaker.

I think this proves that the problem is in the amp. If someone has a Bose amp that they're not using (uhh.. and works) I'd like to buy it if the price is reasonable. The part number can be either 15267752 or 15054673.

well

Thanks Blue. The price is definitely worth the wait, but I'll have to throw you a few shillings. :)

Due to having three kids, the Yukon isn't going to see a lot of mods and the factory amp is all I'm going to have.

I do hope to eventually put a DD DVD/monitor in the dash, sometime so I can watch (at stoplights) cable news on the drive to work. I'll ask for advice on that when the funds allow.
