OnStar Message Deactivation

Does anybody know how to deactivate the OnStar message that pops up everytime I start my Yukon XL Denali? The message says that OnStar is not activated and to contact OnStar. I have to hit OK to make the message go away. Even worse, the message pops up twice since I setup my user profile. I contacted OnStar and was told to visit the dealer. Today at the dealer they tell me to contact OnStar. I don't want the service, just want the message to go away. I'd even be willing to physically disconnect the system if anybody knows where and how to access the Onstar module...

Based on my interactions with GM / Onstar over my former 2020 pickup you’ll get no cooperation from them in disabling the system. GM is fully committed to having their vehicles connected and monitored. Even in vehicles where you refuse to subscribe the telemetry is active and GM is receiving and storing the information. To get it done through them I believe you’d need a cooperative dealer willing to remove the components and reflash the vehicle with a spoofed VIN from a vehicle with no Onstar.

You can certainly remove the transceiver but that will cause a cascade of fault codes about missing or failed network parts. I wish you well in your search for a solution. I got rid of the truck. Not entirely because of Onstar, but it was a factor.

It's there to annoy you so much that you finally give in an subscribe. I haven't gotten there yet but it is a pai.

Thanks! I just want the message disabled, don't really care about removal of the system. OnStar says to get with the dealer. The dealer said to contact OnStar. The dealer service also said to contact my salesman as the OnStar system needs to be activated as a trial to clear the message. I would then need to contact OnStar to cancel the service. PIA...

On my 2016 Denali I recently started getting a Onstar message at every start up that said “this vehicle is in demonstration mode contact Onstar for more information”...this is a common tactic of Onstars to get you to contact them for a sales pitch. I pressed the Onstar button and asked them to disable the message...which they did. It took like 24 hours for the system to update and remove the message but it is removed....no more annoying message at startup. I would assume they can do the same for your vehicle.
