May not be what you're after, but I have a rear spare tire carrier that is hitch mounted. Obviously its removeable (which I like) and it folds down instead of to the side. Like you I have barn doors too. It also has a spot to mount my hi-lift jack. I dont always have it on my truck, but its nice for longer trips and out on the trail. I can also switch it between my different vehicles, and its a lot cheaper than some of the other carriers Ive seen out there.

A smooth bedliner material would look pretty good. I have thought about doin the same kinda thing to my Yukon. I was told that you cannot bedline any of the plastic fender flares so keep that in mind.

wouldn't see why you couldn't do the flares. they did the grill. haha

anyone ever come across a set of sliders for a tahoe? (like in the link above)

I was wondering about that! If I do my idea of bedliner on the bottom, then it might look funny to have smooth fender flares...I think it all needs to match to look right!

yeah, i agree... or have flat black on the bumpers and use the bed liner on the bottom of the doors and rear lower pannel.

A lot of options for this. Just a matter of time. Ill be driving to Georgia Feb 10th so if you all see me, wave!!

Im not too fond of using up the hitch to carry your spare. Id rather have it mounted using that replacement bumper cause then you have to remove the tire in order to tow somethin.

Good Plans! I wouldn't worry about the tire on top. It's the same concerns that Jeeps and every other vehicle has. Wind resistance, top heavy, etc. Nothing will happen, these trucks are big and heavy. If a 50lb tire mounted up top causes these trucks to roll over then we might as well be driving Ford Explorers. But in truth, there is only one concern about mounting the tire up top. How tall are you? I'm short at 5'4" (and fat). With any kind of lift on my truck, I wouldn't be able to get to the tire if it was mounted up there, without doing some sort of Gymnastics routine that I'm not too crazy about. So short answer, if your doing it for looks, put the tire up there, it'll look great. If you want to use it ever, then mount it lower.

My carrier had the option of still being able to tow with it installed. It has a receiver built into the carrier to allow for a hitch ball, tow hook or tailgate party bottle opener

I do like those kennesaw mt bumpers though. If you have the coin I'd definitely go that route. In a perfect world, Id have front and back bumpers from them with tire carrier and front receiver for a winch, 10" of lift and 37's. Oh and a 383HT with a 5 speed manual and detroit locker. But unfortunately I dont live there lol.

lol im 6'2" but its mainly for looks that id put it up there. I DD the yukon and use it for the ranch. Pull the equipment (baler, cutter, trailers) nothing too heavy. This thing manages well with what I use it for. The really heavy trailers are usually pulled by my brother in his 02 F-250 Diesel.

Its not really a rec vehicle, like i said above. Its a DD/Ranch truck. So i think 35" tires is as big as I wanna go with it. The engine is still strong but when it gives out, ill probably just do a rebuild with a nice set of heads/cam/intake and get a 22-2400 stall after a rebuild on the tranny too. Currently at 206k miles. :rocking:

how much is that rear bumper your talking about?
