Well, you could change it to something else or put a taller tire on to tame the rpms to your liking.You're doing that on purpose, right?
Now I've gotta look into another possible option. And, to be honest, I don't do much highway at all these days so I could logically make a case for 4.10/4.30.
There's a possibility I could be towing on highways more in future though, but .... what if I'm not?

Yeah I can vouch for those issues with the 3.42. Look forward to the better cruising speed and performance of the better gears. (3.73/4.10)I daily drive an 06 Suburban LQ4/4L80e/4.10. We also own a 2020 Express 3500 passenger van with the L96/6L90/3.42. My wife drives the van daily to pick/drop off the kids at school. I think both vehicles are close in curb weight
I sometimes get to drive the van and I actually prefer the 4L80/4.10 combination.
The van will tend to downshift too often when I try to accelerate. The cruising speed is too low, like 1600 RPM. Once it's in the 2200-2400 RPM, then it comes alive.
The suburban cruises at higher RPM of course (2400 RPM), but it does so where the engine
is in the higher power band. That one will just go when I push the accelerator. Very rare to downshift.

That'd be fun to be able to solve your own problems like that on your own land. So few today can even find enough room at their home to do basic maintenance on their vehicles. I loved working on my truck in the garage in recent years past and now Public Storage moved into our area and bought up all the storage companies and started sky-rocketing everyone's rents 3x/year.
Had to first consolidate two units into one and then ultimately move everything home. It's other fam members' belongings, I don't believe in storage units, but now my garage is filled and a guest room, etc. Wish I had more space. We all could use more.

Kinda splitting hairs, I know, but technically I believe the stock for that vehicle is 265/70/17 (31.6"), but it did come from the factory as an option with 275/55/20's (31.9"). I'm running some of those in an all terrain that has enough meat on it that it's fairly close to rubbing. I believe 33" just barely clears, if not rubs just a little.I thought you were running stock sized tires? What are you running?
