good quality paint job is gonna be around 5k. My concern with the wrap is whart happens when you get keyed? tear in the wrap and whole thing is shit, or what?

I had maaco paint my 85 pickup about 8 or 9 years ago and it still looks good, other than the rockers and cab corners rotting away that is.

A friend of mine advised me to circle every little dent and ding that you want them to fix with a grease pencil because they will just paint over most of them.

Also remove as much of the trim before you drop it off because they don`t do it. I took almost every piece off at home and i removed the tail lights and marker lights in their parking lot.

It`s not the best paint job by far but for the money it`s a good deal.

I paid $4500 for my 87 suburban`s paintjob and next to my pickup you can notice the difference in quality but the pickup still gets compliments where ever i go.

yea i just think 4500 is alot of money i mean maybe when this truck gets a few more years on her but for now a maaco will do ive just heard some horror storys about them ...do you think they would matte my truck ?

and yea now that you say that about the keying of the wrap that would suck i dont like the idea simply because i still think of it as a giant sticker yet they say its good for at least 8 years or so and it protects the paint under the vehicle

I work in the autobody feild. I would do as much of the prep work before it goes to macco they do what we call a scuff and shoot. That's why the paint doesn't last. I would also try and look around at other shops for a paint job 4500 is an awful lot. Is it staying the same color or are you changing it to something different? When they have to jam it the price goes up

Remove all trim and do as much prep as possible,The Maaco paint job will look great and last a long time if the prep is done properly,The reason the high quality body shops charge 4-5k is the time to tear down and the prep work then re assemble.

Cupcake posted as I was typing.......I need to learn to type faster.

Pretty funny... I'm actually deploying soon as well and had the same thought. I got an estimate from Macco and depending on what you choose, it can be anywhere from 600$-3500$. My thought was...WTF!! I have no idea how to choose what is nessisary and what is too much. Mine is black and in pretty good cond. I'm going the same black but I do have some rocker rippling from some jack ass that took the trim off wrong.

I'm in the same boat. Subscribed!

scuff and shoot?? is that where they just scuff up the paint for a texture an spray over it? and yea i can do prep work thats pretty easy its time consuming and a shit job but i could do that if it means my paint will last 500 dollars a gallon?? how do they make money only charging me like 6 somthing for the whole job? and no its staying black just dont know what shade or type of black i want

The website says they use Dupont/PPG and sherwin williams base/clear sytems.
Just do the Prep/trim removal and it should be fine,I am sure that Maaco uses the cheaper paints compared to that $500 a gallon clear that atomic used and they buy in volume so I am sure they get huge discounts compared to me or you.
