2004 Tahoe LT. Replaced all rotors, caliper, pads, parking brake shoes last
January 2022. Had rotor / drum combo on and off 3 times. To loose. just
right, and can't get rotor drum. Backed off to get it on tight. Didn't get it
to hold. At 73 years old was worn out. Come Inspection Sticker time,
brought to my mechanic to make parking brake work so it would pass
inspection. My mechanic replaced all cables for $$$. Got Tahoe back with
sticker. Wife drove Tahoe for a week. When I used the Tahoe, tried the
Parking Brake it barely held in drive with no gas. Pedal went all the
way to the floor. Told my mechanic $$$ and he said well ???
Was going to replace the brake actuator next for just cost of
part. When I dropped the Tahoe off mechanic said he wanted to
change the emergency brake shoes with OEM shoes first. He
had luck with two other vehicles recently. Said ok. I had
bought the shoes from auto zone. And yes, they looked
thin and hard. Mechanic said the OEM shoes had a different
texture, so we are trying that before changing the actuator.
Good News !! Mechanic just called. OEM Shoes fixed parking brake.
Pedal goes only halfway solid.
If anything changes will post it.
Have been buying Delco Gold for Tahoe and Corvette, just
because. Would not change pads to ceramic n either vehicle.
Hope this helps someone.

GM quality parts wins again and what is really important for the park brake is a correct adjustment when done.

Welcome to the forum. My parking brake is the only thing that is not working on my baby. I plan on attacking this issue next week with a complete brake fluid flush.

A brake fluid flush will not address any park brake problems. Hydraulic versus mechanical systems. I think what you are saying is that you are doing a flush anyway and decided to dig in to the park brake problem at the same time.

Exactly. I will take care of the parking brake issue and THEN flush my fluid. English, hell I'm an engineer by training. Thanks for the clarification.
