Wife went to take kids to school recently and the passenger front door wouldn't open (child was simultaneously lifting exterior handle while power unlock was in process).

Don't think the panel can be removed with the door closed. I've tried to remove the interior door handle (to manually access rods) without much success.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this situation?

May need to pull off drivers door panel to see what you are dealing with. Perhaps you will see a way to make a tool.
If you have bucket front seats you can remove the seat bolts and move the seat back to get into the armrest bolts and the rest of the door panel fasteners. May have to pull seat into rear seat area to get panel removed

You may find that a rod or mechanism has become dislodged. If the interior handle will not detach from the door frame it may have a rivet or two holding it on.

SunlitComet... Thanks for the suggestion. I'm guessing that the rods or the actuator is the problem (leaning toward rods), but just can't access it/them. BTW, the interior door handle has been replaced previously and rivet was replaced with self-tapping screw - has been removed successfully as part of my previous efforts to correct the problem. However, the handle still won't release from door frame. (I only recall one rivet existing prior to replacing interior handle mechanism.)

I'm open to further suggestions...Hope to take another look at it this weekend.

Possibly the rod on the handle side fell off and is blocking the removal. can you grab the rod and move it around from the other end. There are also two rods on the handle. One for release and one for lock slide. If all else fails remove the interior door frame.

Just an update...
As suddenly as it started, it seems to have corrected itself. Once I get some time to investigate, I'll remove the door panel and see if any thing seems out of sorts (rub marks on rods, bent rods, etc.).

I have had all parts in my driver door break. Inside and exterior door handles, internal linkages, the latch. Pull the panel and have a look, sometimes the linkage tracks break and things may bind. Could be a gremlin too.
