I have a very stupid question. I recently purchased a 1999 tahoe. The passenger windows will only roll down about 1/3 of the way and then they stop. I am sure this is something associated with the child safety function but I cannot figure out how to turn it off. The child locks are disengaged. Can someone tell me how to get these windows to roll all the way down. Thanks.

Not a child safety lock. It is the way the door is shaped that does not allow the window to go down all the way.

If its for the back seats your talking about, they only go down half way. Id you look at the door it curved so the tire fits there. Cant make it roll down all the way, sorry bud.

Yeah, with the exception of breaking your window, there's no way you can make the window roll down completely. I know some dealers out there would try and have you believe this is a child safety feature, since most people aren't going to sit there and try to analyze the structural engineering of the door. That's what they told my father when he first purchased his truck in 97 before I became the owner. He's not dumb and could figure it out immediately but he went along with it anyways.

I got a picture I think ya'll would enjoy to see...if you give me a few minutes I can find the picture.

Here are two pictures of an OBS Avalanche type SUV/Truck. It says Silverado on the side but it looks like a Tahoe with the back cut off and made to a truck. It's a Mexican vehicle.

If you look close at the back windows, you can see a vertical black strip. That is so that the window can roll down all the way.
