Perimeter/Puddle LED strips on 03 Tahoe

would anyone be concerned about the amps those strips are drawing if I directly connect them to the courtesy lights in the door ?

If they’re LEDs, they won’t draw much current.

Not at all, leds draw very little current. I’ve had mine wired that way for a couple years.

How did you get the cables to the inside of the car ? did you drill anything ?

Got it done, I went through the grommet in the firewall on the driver side and then routed the wire to the courtesy light. It works great.

Sorry for the late reply, email notifications aren’t working. I drilled a small hole in the bottom of each door, put in a grommet, ran the wire through to the door light wires inside each door, and then sealed the grommets with RTV. I see you got yours done though, good job.

NICE! What brand and part number for led strips and did you tie into the footwell wire? May do this for the wifes Tahoe and daughters Silverado ( if the silvy has the wiring)

I bought a roll off eBay for cheap. You can cut them to length and solder the wires on; there’s contact pads at each led. Then I used the kind of heat shrink that has glue inside that seals the wire connection. The strips have high strength peel-n-stick adhesive but if they fall off you can use RTV to glue them up. Mine have been on for 3 years.

I went through the firewall and from there I went into the doors to wire them to the door lights that turn on when I open the door. It works absolutely great. I might add another strip for the rear of the car too.
I got mine on Ebay, just look for some outdoor LED strips that have silicon on them.
